The Mineral UV Filter formulas avoid the use of any nanoparticles. Instead, a refined dispersion of micronized ZnO and TiO2 in flexible, high-volatility, non-comedogenic silicones allows the formulations to remain extremely lightweight by optimizing the amount of the blocking agents. This formulation uses mainly ZnO for its protective effects (because in addition to reflecting/refracting light, ZnO is actually also able to absorb UV rays without creating oxygen radicals) and the supporting TiO2 that it contains is only in rutile form (no anatase form of TiO2 is used at all since it's an aggressive producer of free radicals).
Directions: Shake well before use. Apply to face liberally and evenly 15 to 20 minutes before UV exposure. To maintain protection during continued UV exposure, reapply every 2 hours or after material water exposure, towel-drying, swimming, or extensive perspiration. Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating. Suitable for all skin tones.
For use on children less than 6 months of age, consult a physician prior to use. Keep out of eyes. Rinse with water to remove.
If irritation occurs, cease use and consult a physician. Use only as directed on unbroken skin. Patch testing prior to use is advised.

Heavy white cast
This product has so much white cast it makes me look a ghostly purple. It doesn't react to my sensitive breakout-prone skin, but it does leave a tacky finish that discourages me to wear underneath makeup. I thought this would be a lovely base for everyday wear, especially since I love all of my ordinary brand skincare, but I think this is a difficult product to work with. I don't have dark toned skin, I'm quite fair with a slight yellow to olive undertone. The things I love about it are that it's super affordable, it leaves a more matte finish, and it doesn't cause any blemishes. But I have to dock 2 stars for the texture of the finish and the ugly white cast that it leaves behind. Maybe if you are already ghostly white, this product will be amazing, but my final option on this is "meh"

Leaves awful layer on skin
This product leaves a terrible and frankly embarrassing white cast on my skin. It makes me look gray. Leaves my skin super sticky and chalky feeling. It also smells weird to me. It's a great price but not worth it in my opinion.

Go-to vegan friendly mineral face SPF
Tried this sunscreen as a last resort after trying so many other mineral SPFs. I have super sensitive skin, even reacted to EltaMd mineral SPF. When I first applied the Ordinary SPF it was very thick and looked like it would have an awful white cast but I was pleasantly surprised at how easily it absorbed, leaving minimal white cast and little to no greasiness. It's not perfect, does feel a bit tacky but overall much better than other mineral SPFs especially for such a reasonable price.

I was hoping to find a low-priced every day mineral based sunscreen. This product will likely become a back-up or weekends-only product for me. I found it remained somewhat tacky on the skin throughout the day. I'm very pale, and I found the white cast took the life right out of my face. It did feel like it stayed all day, so this will probably be great for days out while camping or on the beach. Love the price!

I love this product!! I always like to have a sunscreen on my face everyday and this one does not disappoint. It has a delicious smell ( like you could eat it- kind of reminds me of white chocolate)—and the price can not be beat! I also put it on my lips before lipstick or gloss. Other facial products like foundation and blush, glide on easily after this sunscreen is applied.Love it!

I am in love with The ordinary, but I have to say this product oohhh dear, I should have read the reviews before purchased it. I guess it does work, but the fact that makes me look like a Vampire, is just not good at all, I tried to put less amount but still, I look so pale, my skin is medium so it looks like I am wearing a mask, so disappointed, never buying this again â¹

Best mineral sunscreen for face
This is definitely the best mineral sunscreen I have tried so far, and I've tried several. It goes on easily, doesn't burn my skin or eyes, doesn't make my oily/sensitive/combination skin break out or look shiny. Wears well under makeup. It has a bit of a white cast but not as much as the other mineral sunscreens I've tried. Wish it came in a higher spf though.

This product does leave a white cast but it does disappear. If you're putting makeup on afterwards, this would be a non-issue. I can't remember how long it takes to blend into my skin (I have a tanned complexion) but it happens before I leave the house. Reading the other reviews, this is what I was worried about the most but I would buy this product again.

Works.
At first I didn't like this because it seemed thick and very white. I have light skin with a warm tone so it looked very strange on me. However, after learning to apply it little by little and wearing a powder over it, I have changed my mind. I'm using this from now on. Great product and price. A good sunscreen is very important to me.

The best sunscreen
I join the other reviewer in being obsessed with this sunscreen. I have a few different sunscreens at home but I find myself reaching for this one every morning. It goes on well, doesn’t run at all, the whitish cast melts into skin pretty fast leaving the skin glowing and moisturized. I’ll keep buying it forever

As a fan of The Ordinary, this product is a huge disappointment. It has a purple cast that emphasizes the redness from my rosacea. It also clings to any dryness I have. A higher spf and being waterproof would probably make up for the effects it has on my skin's appearance.
I will not be repurchasing.

Not only did it take forever to fade from chalky grey/white, it was sticky and remained so until I washed it off with cleanser. The worse part though was that I had a sunburn after very little time in the sun so it isn't even a good sunscreen. I love most Ordinary products but this is not one.

Disappointed as I thought this was a moisturizer with SPF and not just SPF. Also, as others have said, it does give a white cast. You have to use very little and massage it in. I think this would be a good product if it was all you were using,but when I follow with my primer it gets streaky.

I was pleasantly surprised with this product. Easy to spread, lightweight and absorbs well. With any mineral sunscreen youâÂÂre going to get a slightly white/grey cast (thatâÂÂs what makes it work) so I use it under makeup or mixed into my foundation and itâÂÂs not a problem at all.

I have been really impressed with all The Ordinary products I have tried and this is no exception. It does initally go on white but spreads well, feels good on the skin and doesn't make me shiny, so works well under a mineral powder makeup. No overpowering "sunscreen" smell either.

Good base under makeup
Overall I am happy with this sunscreen. I did find that as pointed out in some of the other reviews that this leaves a bit of white cast on your skin. This sunscreen is good for the price point, my skin didn't react to it and it was also a good base before putting on makeup.

I am no stranger to mineral sunscreens. I have worn toddler mineral sunscreens as thick as toothpaste but this one is so weird. The white cast is grey and it covered so weirdly with make up. I had to wash my face twice and there were still physical white patches. I hated it.

Disappointed
Bought this because of it being a mineral SPF, but unfortunately it did not work. As much as I rubbed it in, my skin looked grey. It left my skin feeling very dry and after a 1/2 hour I had to wash it off and moisturize my face.
It DID block UV, but did not work for me.

This sunscreen is very thick - it doesn't spread well, leaves a white cast all over (even on my pale skin) and was also nearly impossible to remove from my hands after applying (even after attempting to use dish soap to wash my hands).
I do not recommend this sunscreen.

Good price but WOW whitecast
At such a great price I didn’t have the highest expectations but my goodness this leaves your face with serious whitecast! I have very pale skin and it just adds to that. It does calm down after about 15 minutes but not enough that I will be repurchasing.

It leaves a bit of a purplish-grey white cast and does feel a little chalky, but I haven't had any trouble with it streaking or pilling up. Certainly not greasy. Works well enough under makeup (which I need to wear with it given the white cast).

I really like this SPF cream. I don't mind the cast it leaves when you first put it on. It lets me make sure I have applied it everywhere. Once it absorbs, it does go away. I use it under a powder foundation and I find it works very well.

I love the Ordinary, and I only use physical block sunscreens, but this is probably the worst sunblock I have ever used. Leaves the worst cast (worse than natural baby sunscreens) and is goopy. Well sells some other great brands - skip this one.

I bought this product because it is good protection for my skin, but it goes on white and chalky. I'm Asian and I look like casper the ghost. It applies nicely and works well with my foundation. It's worth to try at this price point.

Wow I’m so glad I purchased this sunset! Yeah it leaves a white cast but that disappears in a few minutes and covers your face with ample protection. I’m very impressed with The Ordinary product line. Will definitely buy this again.

Grey cast is the worst
This may be a fine sunscreen as far as actual protection from the sun, but it gives the most horrible bluish grey tint to your face. You would absolutely need to wear makeup over it and I don't like wearing makeup every day.

I love this product. I bought it to take to Mexico this winter and used it under my foundation. It does go on white which is fine under foundation and the best thing is it does not make me oily and shiny in the heat.

For a mineral sunscreen, the price is great and I use it everyday. I put a thin layer under my eyes first then do the rest of my face. I find it less chalky/whitening than other mineral sunscreens containing zinc.

Best mineral sunscreen I’ve found!
This is by far the best mineral sunscreen I have found, and I’ve tried many. It still leaves a bit of a white cast but that is inevitable with mineral formulas. It dries matte and works great on my dry skin.

Best under makeup
This is my ride or die sunscreen. It is the best primer, it gives a white cast (obviously) so I never wear it alone, but under foundation it gives a flawless finish. I always stock up cuz I love this so much
